Wayne Rooney: I deserved community service for drink driving — ex-England and Manchester United ace admits error of ways
The 32-year-old is enjoying his new life in the United States with DC United - notching four goals in 12 appearances so far
WAYNE ROONEY says he deserved to be given 100 hours of community service for drink driving — admitting it has given him a different perspective on life.
The ex-England and Manchester United skipper was also slapped with a two-year driving ban for the offence last September.
"I went to a garden centre at Macclesfield, working with adults with learning difficulties, so I was just helping with different things, whether it was planting seeds or making Christmas decorations with them.
"To do something with people who aren't as privileged as we are was great.
"They sent me a video last week of them dancing. It was something I never thought I'd do."
Rooney burst on to the scene as a 16-year-old at Everton, and from then on in football has been the constant in his life - with not much time for anything else.
He added: "I've never worked. I went straight into football after school.
";The staff were really good and I finished it just before I came here.
"When I came back from holiday, I had three days before flying out here and I went to see them, took some cakes and stuff.
"When I'm back in England, I'll go and visit them. They were really good to me."
The experienced forward, who remains England's all-time record goalscorer with 53 goals, has scored four goals in 12 appearances since joining the MLS outfit.
Rooney and co will be looking to make it back-to-back home wins when they entertain high-flying New York Red Bulls later today.
