IT WAS second time lucky for Mike Salerno this weekend – as the Tottenham fanatic proposed to his long-term girlfriend Jessica at the club’s new stadium.
Salerno had initially planned to go down on one knee on Saturday – with Spurs scheduled to hold their first game at the new White Hart Lane against Liverpool.
However, his special weekend plans in London looked set to be off – after ongoing stadium delays meant the game was consequently moved to Wembley.
That was when the Premier League club stepped in to ensure Mike’s grand plans indeed went ahead – just a day later.
It came as a complete surprise to Jessica, who was told the couple had been randomly picked out of a draw of supporters who attended the previous day’s match against Liverpool to come on a behind-the-scenes tour of the new ground.
Little did Jessica know Mike was about to ask her a life-changing question!
Having been shown around the beautiful new complex and into the stadium bowl, the couple were given an extra treat as they were taken pitchside.
It was there that Mike plucked up the courage to ask Jessica to be his wife – with Spurs TV on hand to capture the memorable moment – looking up into the stunning 62,000 venue.
Unsurprisingly after that Jessica said ‘yes’, with Tottenham legend Ledley King on hand to congratulate the couple with a celebratory bottle of champagne.
That was not the end of a surreal day for the pair, as they then made their way up to the club’s Lilywhite House offices.
King, alongside other club staff members, joined them for a drink to toast the magical day before they departed.
Jessica said: "I’m in complete shock but this is incredible and I couldn’t have dreamt of a better proposal. We’re so happy.
"Spurs have played a huge part in our relationship, we’ve been to many games and travelled many places to follow the Club and this is where we were most excited to visit."
Mike added: "I’m just relieved! We’ve been talking about coming here for so long, it’s very exciting, and now we’ve made this stadium a very special place so we’ll be returning for many a game.
"A huge thank you to the Club for making this run so smoothly when there were so many things that could have gone wrong! It’s been absolutely amazing."
The happy couple are capping off an incredible few days with a trip to Milan – where they’ll be watching their beloved Spurs in Champions League action against Inter tomorrow.
