JOSE MOURINHO’s uncertain Manchester United future has left an incredible TWELVE players walking a contract tightrope, according to reports.

First-team stars David De Gea, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are all in the final year of their deals.

Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial are also considering their futures - with their respective contracts expiring next summer.

United have the option of 12-month contract extensions to keep the likes of De Gea, Martial, Smalling, Jones and Valencia at the club.

However, claim that with Mourinho’s position as manager at Old Trafford precarious - that is complicating those discussions.

Shaw, Mata, Herrera and Young can all walk away for free next summer – something the Red Devils will want to avoid at all costs.

United are desperate to secure the long-term futures of Martial and Shaw, while there are still question marks over whether star goalkeeper De Gea will sign a new deal.

Club captain Valencia and Young, both 33, are also highly thought of within the Old Trafford hierarchy, with Mourinho valuing their top level experience.

Meanwhile, Matteo Darmian, Andreas Pereira and James Wilson are also waiting to hear whether United will trigger options for an extra year.

The Mirror also claim that Old Trafford bosses are backing under-fire boss Mourinho in his continued power battle with wantaway French ace Paul Pogba.

The World Cup winning midfielder has little interest in rebuilding his interest with Mourinho, with his heart set on a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
