Zinedine Zidane wanted Man United trio Paul Pogba, David De Gea and Anthony Martial when he was Real Madrid boss

In his final season in charge of Madrid, Zidane had informal discussions with the club's hierarchy about the United trio

ZINEDINE ZIDANE wanted to bring a trio of Manchester United stars to Real Madrid during his final season in charge of the club, according to reports.

Zidane, who left the Bernabeu in May after a successful two-and-a-half year stint, has been heavily linked with the United job as Jose Mourinho comes under increasing pressure.

And Zidane has already liked what he's seen at United - registering an interest in David De Gea, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba last term - according to the 

They claim that during an informal discussion Madrid are understood to have asked to be kept informed of the aforementioned trio's situations at Old Trafford.

Zidane's liking for Pogba could end up being a key factor in restoring some harmony to the United dressing room - should he eventually replace Jose.

The midfielder's relationship with Mourinho is at an all-time low, and was recently stripped off the vice-captaincy - as well as an astonishing training ground bust-up taking place with the Portuguese boss.

Spain No 1 De Gea remains one of United's star assets, but is yet to sign a new-long term deal at the club - with his current deal expiring next summer.

Martial, who has had an indifferent spell to date at Old Trafford, remains highly thought of by United's hierarchy and they also want to tie him down to a new contract amid interest from other top clubs.

Elsewhere, Mourinho brought forward his pre-match conference ahead of tomorrow's clash with Newcastle by five hours.

It lasted just 3 min 30 sec and only six questions were asked as Mourinho responded cagily to the media in attendance.
