Rocky Fielding to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for world super-middleweight title
Pair will square up in New York's world-famous Madison Square Garden on December 15 for epic clash
ROCKY FIELDING will defend his world super-middleweight title in an epic clash against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez later this year.
It has been confirmed that the pair will square off on December 15 in New York's world-famous Madison Square Garden.
The surprise announcement comes on the back of Canelo's controversial win over rival Gennady Golovkin last month.
The Mexican has only had six fights at middleweight since making the move up to the division.
But he will continue to pile on the pounds as he jumps up to 168lb - the weight he fought Julie Cesar Chavez Jr at last year.
Canelo revealed the news on social media, saying: "With great emotion I announce my next fight.
"Taking a big challenge in my career and representing the WBC at 160lbs, I will now fight for the 168lbs title vs Rocky Fielding, the current WBA champion."
Promoter Eddie Hearn was delighted with the announcement as he took to Twitter to congratulate Fielding on landing such a lucrative gig.
Hearn wrote: “Go on Rocky lad! Pleased to confirm that @Rocky87Fielding will defend his @WBABoxing title against @Canelo Dec 15 @TheGarden.”
Fielding revealed he was in training for a then-unnamed opponent earlier today, tweeting: “Tough first week done. Camp in flow.”
