Mohamed Salah injury update as star returns to Liverpool for treatment after picking up muscle problem while playing for Egypt
Striker had an X-ray after he was forced off the field in the second half of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier
MOHAMED SALAH has returned to Liverpool for treatment after he picked up an injury during Egypt’s win over Swaziland.
The striker, 26, limped off the pitch with a muscle problem during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday.
And the Egyptian FA have confirmed that Salah will miss Tuesday’s match following an X-ray.
The statement read: “Javier Aguirre has allowed Salah to return to his club and he will not participate against Swaziland next Tuesday to give him time to recover.
“Mohamed Salah had complained during yesterday’s match versus Swaziland about stress in his muscle.
“He was medically examined and underwent an X-ray post-game.
“Following communication with Liverpool’s medical staff, it was determined the player would be unable to player in the next match.”
The ex-Chelsea star received treatment on the side of the pitch, but was unable to shake off the problem.
Egypt had used all three substitutes and were forced to play the final moments of the match with just ten men on the pitch.
Before he was forced off the field, Salah produced a moment of magic when he found the net directly from a corner kick.
Liverpool will be hoping that Salah is fit to return for next Saturday’s clash against Huddersfield at the Kirklees Stadium.
The Egyptian star, who won the Premier League Player of the Season award last year, has scored three goals for the Reds this season.
