Floyd Mayweather ‘to return to boxing on December 31’ as Manny Pacquiao eyes May rematch
Money won on points when the pair clashed in 2015 and currently appears closer to fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov than the Filipino
MANNY PACQUIAO has revealed Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring on New Year's Eve - and the pair will then look to book their rematch for May 5.
The Filipino - who currently holds the WBA welterweight title - is set to face Mayweather's mate Adrien Broner in January.
And he believes that he and Money will hold talks over a bout once he floors Broner.
Pacquiao said: "Floyd is going to fight on December 31 and I'm going to fight January 12.
"After that we'll know [about the rematch].
"He's coming back, we'll discuss it after Broner."
Pac Man lost to Mayweather on points when they met in 2015 but has won three of his four fights since.
Pacquiao is now 39 and retired Mayweather - who reckons he will pocket £153million from taking on Khabib Nurmagomedov - is 41.
Both are past their peak but Pacquiao seems intent on a rematch with his great rival on the Mexican holiday weekend of Cinco de Mayo, with Showtime's president Stephen Espinoza saying talks between the duo are "very serious".
Pacquiao added: "If that fight happens, I want Cinco de Mayo (May 5) or July."

But Mayweather seems to have a busy fight calendar despite hanging up his gloves - and a rematch with Conor McGregor is on the cards.
He said: "McGregor was talking that s*** so it ain’t over.
"After Me and Khabib lock-up, me and McGregor going to lock-up again."
