Tottenham and Man City play in front of thousands of empty seats as fans stay away from Wembley on Monday night
Monday's Premier League clash was played on a NFL marked pitch
THOUSANDS of fans stayed away from Tottenham and Manchester City's Premier League clash at Wembley on Monday night.
Social media users picked up on the empty seats littered across the stands as the two sides battled it out on a battered NFL marked turf.
One said: "Well played Tottenham fans for getting into the Halloween spirit by dressing up as empty seats."
Another commented in response to journalist Tony Evans' tweet regarding there being "way too many empty seats" saying: "Because many Spurs fans like me are tired of Wembley, very tired.
"It's so depressing getting home from Wembley. We're tired of it."
It appears many Spurs fans are looking forward to leaving Wembley sooner rather than later, with another fan highlighting the ludicrous parking charges as another reason why fans stayed away.
Posting a picture which clearly shows event day parking costs £40, he accompanied it with the caption "this won't help."
Spurs won't be moving into their new home until the start of the new year, four months after they were scheduled to do so.
That means every Premier League and European home game up to and including their match against Wolves on December 29 will be played at Wembley - which will do nothing to appease fans.
And delays could continue into the new year with Daniel Levy admitting he doesn't know when the stadium will be ready.
The Spurs chief blamed missed deadlines and “factors completely outside of our control” for the latest setback.
Red-faced Levy said: “I wish I was able to confirm an exact opening date and fixture.
“We are naturally being cautious in respect of our timetable for our test events and official opening game.
