Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says two Blues stars are surplus to requirements

MAURIZIO SARRI has revealed that Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses are both free to leave Stamford Bridge - as neither player fits his formation.

Drinkwater is yet to make a competitive appearance this season, while Moses – a key figure under previous manager Antonio Conte – has played just twice as a substitute in the Premier League.

And that scenario is unlikely to change, with the Italian boss admitting the pair don’t suit the way he sets up his team.

Sarri said: “The situation is that Drinkwater, for me, is suitable for a midfield with two midfielders.

“I told him two months ago what I think.

“Moses is more suitable to play like a wing-back, rather than like a winger or a full-back.”

As for their chances of breaking back into the first team, they are extremely slim.

Sarri responded: “I don’t know. They have to improve but their characteristics are a bit different.”

The Blues will look to maintain their unbeaten league record when they host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge today with kick-off at 4pm.

Sarri’s men have won seven and drawn three of their top-flight games so far, with fellow title challengers Liverpool and champions Manchester City also still undefeated.
