Bookies suspend betting on Arsene Wenger to be next AC Milan manager

Frenchman was odds-on to take control at the San Siro before bookmakers received a flurry of bets

BOOKMAKERS have suspended the betting on Arsene Wenger to become the next AC Milan manager.

The former Arsenal boss was odds-on to replace Gennaro Guttuso at the San Siro, before Coral pulled the plug on the market after seeing an ‘intense gamble’.

The Frenchman was as short as 1/6 on to become Milan's next boss before receiving an influx of placed bets.

John Hill said: "The intensity of this gamble suggests to us that Arsene Wenger is on his way to Milan and could be confirmed as their new manager later this week therefore we have pulled the plug on the market."

Rumours linking Wenger with AC Milan began after Ivan Gazidis quit Arsenal for the Italian giants.

Gazidas grew a strong relationship with Wenger as he was his chief executive during the latter's time in North London.

Wenger recently spoke of how he misses the day-to-day involvement after being out of work following his 22-year reign of Arsenal.

In doing so, the 69-year-old also said he would have a new club in 2019.

Wenger said: "I'll be somewhere early next year but I do not know where, I got a good rest. I watched a lot of football, I miss it."

Gattuso is under immense pressure at Milan despite turning things around recently, with three wins on the bounce.

Milan are currently fourth in Serie A and trail league-leaders Juventus by ten points.

Meanwhile they are second in Group F in the Europa League and are only two points ahead of third-placed Olympiacos.
