Xherdan Shaqiri says he wouldn’t even share a coffee with Gary Neville after summer criticism
The tricky Swiss has been impressive since his £13million move from Stoke City - keeping the Sky Sports pundit quiet with his recent performances
XHERDAN SHAQIRI has said he wouldn't even share a coffee with Gary Neville as the pair's famous war of words rumbles on.
The tricky Swiss has been impressive since his £13million move from Stoke City in the summer.
He has put in a string of good performances for Jurgen Klopp's side and looks to have cemented a starting place in the side.
And the former Bayern and Inter Milan man also netted his first and second goal for the Reds in Liverpool's 4-1 demolition of Cardiff and their 2-0 win over Fulham last time out.
Now he believes he has silenced his critics and most notably Gary Neville - who relentlessly slammed the Swiss in the summer.
Speaking to Swiss outlet Shaqiri has said he knew he had to be patient when he arrived in Merseyside.
And when asked if he would share a coffee with the United legend, Shaqiri said: "Not at all. I do not care what he says. I do not care if he says now that I'm playing hard.
"Many have ridiculed after the transfer that Liverpool is too big for me. But I was always calm, too, when I got little playing time at the beginning.
"I knew, of course because of the experience at Bayern and Inter, that I have to be patient, work focused and then take my chance when I get it."
Neville famously called Shaqiri "unprofessional" when Stoke were relegated last season.
He said: "I’m not a fan of Shaqiri to be honest with you.
“I think that was to be fair made worse by the fact that he distanced himself from his team-mates as Stoke.
“They were unprofessional last season Stoke there’s no doubt and he epitomises it."
And Shaqiri hilariously responded by sending a signed shirt to the former right back.
But it now looks as though the Reds new signing has silenced the Sky Sports pundit for good - and look like a bargain at £13million.
And he has said his manager Klopp was key in helping him settle at Anfield.
He said: "I understand myself excellently with him," he added. "I like people so open. And that we can talk in German, of course, is great."
But Klopp impresses me so much that I say: I want to win the title for this man.
"And if we continue like in the moment, then everything is possible. I believe."
