Les Bleus managed to survive without their 19-year-old superstar, but it was still goalless at half-time.

Didier Deschamps' side were desperate to bounce back after Friday's devastating 2-0 defeat to Netherlands.

And it took them until the 52nd minute to find a breakthrough.

Martin Caceres appeared to block Antoine Griezmann's shot with his hand and France were awarded a penalty.

The goalkeeper went the right way, but the Chelsea star's strike flew into the corner of the net.

Giroud has now scored 33 international goals, which makes him the country's fourth highest goalscorer in history.

Only David Trezegeut, Michael Platini and Thierry Henry remain ahead of him in the history books.

Deschamps' men beat Uruguay 2-0 in Russia, but Luis Suarez and Co didn't seem to be gunning for revenge.

Oscar Tabarez's side looked shaky from the first whistle and they struggled to create chances.

Mbappe missed a clear-cut opportunity to open the scoring before he was forced off the field with an injury.

The 19-year-old raised concerns when he landed awkwardly after Uruguay goalkeeper Martin Campana raced off his line to collect the ball.

He was clearly in pain as he hobbled off the pitch, which is a huge blow for PSG after Neymar's suspected groin injury against Cameroon.
