HARRY REDKNAPP once took his Portsmouth squad on a safari when he was manager… to the displeasure of the club’s African players.
The ex-Tottenham and QPR boss has emerged a real favourite on this year’s I'm a Celebrity 2018.
Redknap, 71, has already enthralled viewers with hilarious tales from his time in football.
And when asked about his managerial spells at respective clubs, Redknapp recalled on a trip to Africa with Portsmouth.
The veteran boss had two spells at Fratton Park, leading the club into the Premier League in 2002 and winning the FA Cup in 2008.
He said: "I managed Bournemouth for 10 years, West Ham for seven years, Tottenham for four.
“And Portsmouth, where we won the FA Cup and got them into the Premier League.
"That was a great team I had there. I had a team of African players and we went to South Africa on a safari.
"The guy in charge said to me we would be up at 5:30am, we had lovely coffee, cake and then on the jeeps for 6am.
"Then the players came up to me and said 'Gaffer, we are from Africa. We have seen elephants, we have seen lions, we don't want to get up at 5:30!"
Ex-Arsenal striker Kanu, who scored the winner in that historic final against Cardiff at Wembley in 2008, was part of the squad.
Sulley Muntari, Papa Bouba Diop and defender Lauren were the other notable African members in Pompey's side at that time.
