Tottenham striker Harry Kane to be awarded OBE from the Queen after captaining England to the World Cup finals
THREE Lions skipper Harry Kane will score his third major triumph of the year — an OBE from the Queen.
The gong crowns an incredible 2018 for the striker, who led his side to the World Cup semi-finals and welcomed a daughter into the world.
He has been notified of the award for his services to sport, which will be unveiled in the New Year’s Honours list.
But like England boss Gareth Southgate, also in line for an OBE, he has been asked to keep quiet until next weekend’s official reveal.
A close pal said: “Harry is overwhelmed and excited about the idea of going to Buckingham Palace.
“Playing for England was one of the proudest moments of his life but to be honoured by the Queen for his achievement will top the lot.
“The last six months have been a complete whirlwind for him, and getting the OBE will put the finishing touch to an incredible year.”
Kane, 25, was at the heart of England’s exciting World Cup run in Russia.
He won the Golden Boot for finishing the tournament as top scorer with his six goals, propelling England to their best performance in nearly 30 years.
He returned home in time for the birth of his second child, Vivienne Jane, who arrived in August — 19 months after big sister Ivy Jane.
Proud dad Harry, who also won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons with club side Spurs, is now planning his wedding to childhood sweetheart Katie Goodland.
The pal said: “He is a model professional and a role model for youngsters wanting to enter the game.
"He deserves this recognition.”
