The Frenchman showed great pace in the opening race of the season in Saudi Arabia but could only finish second after suffering from a technical penalty.

Vergne said: “I am not desperate to get the first win, it will come in time if we do a good job.

“So I am desperate to do a good job and keep being quick.

“The championship is super long, so it makes no sense to go by anything at the moment.

“But for now we need to just score as many points as possible and if the car is good enough for the win I will go for it.”

Vergne won just four of the 12 races last season to claim the title and finished the campaign with 198 points, which is 54 more than second-placed Lucas Di Grassi.

The 28-year-old is realistic with Techeetah’s chances this weekend after the team struggled on this circuit last season.

He said: "Being so close to the victory in the first round has left me very hungry for more, and it’s what my focus is all about right now," Vergne said.

"Marrakesh hasn’t been a good track for us in the past so I’m hoping that we can change that and leave Morocco on a high note this year.”

Both Techeetah drivers finished outside the points in Morrocco last term, with Vergne finishing in 13th and Lotterer in 17th.
