Siewert thanks ‘Martin from Wakefield’ after lookalike helps with Huddersfield unveiling

The Terriers trolled Sky Sports with a hilarious follow-up viral video to announce the German’s appointment

JAN SIEWERT thanked Martin from Wakefield after being unveiled at Huddersfield this morning.

Sky Sports mistook Siewert for Manchester City fan Martin Warhurst during their coverage of the Terriers’ game against Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday.

And Huddersfield announced the German’s appointment yesterday with a spoof video featuring charity chief executive Warhurst sat in the manager’s office.

Speaking to the press for the first time, Siewert, 36, smiled: “I have to thank Martin from Wakefield. It’s fantastic that I could observe the game with his help!

“But he is a fantastic guy, I met him yesterday.

“What he is doing is great with the charity.”

Siewert has taken on a monumental task to try and keep Huddersfield in the Premier League.

The Terriers are ten points adrift of safety and have picked up just one point from their last ten games.

But Siewert said: “If I was not confident, I would not be sitting here.

“We have to work hard and do our very best and prepare for everything.

“We have 15 more games. My only focus is the task I have to do with the team.”

Siewert left his job as manager of Borussia Dortmund’s second string to move to the John Smith’s Stadium - exactly the same switch his predecessor David Wagner made in 2016.

But the new Huddersfield chief, who is the top-flight's youngest boss, insisted: “I always did it my way, so I can’t be compared to David Wagner.

“He had much success here, but now it is my new role, it’s a new chapter.

“Of course there are similarities, because of our playing style.

“But the most important thing is I’m Jan Siewert and I have to do it my way and David his.

“I don’t think you should compare the two.”
