Conor McGregor banned for six months and fined £38,000 for UFC 229 brawl with Khabib

CONOR McGREGOR has been handed a £38,000 fine and a backdated suspension of six months for his part in the post fight brawl that followed his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

Khabib also has been banned for nine months for his part in the melee which shocked the millions of fans watching around the world.

A bad-blooded fight spilled over into chaos after Khabib KO’d McGregor with a fourth-round rear-naked choke to retain his lightweight world title in October.

As soon as the ref called a halt to play, Khabib scrambled over the octagon wall to attack McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis.

It sparked a mass brawl which saw a number of people tangled in violent scraps.

And Khabib was handed a nine-month ban as well as a £380,000 fine.

However, McGregor has been punished too and will be banned for six months.

The decision was made a hearing by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, although neither McGregor nor Khabib were present.

The Russian’s ban will be reduced by three months though if he attends an anti-bullying public service announcement.

While a number of his teammates have been hit with one-year bans and £25,000 fines for their roles in the fracas.
