Arsenal could re-sign Man Utd flop Alexis Sanchez in sensational transfer, according to Overmars
The Chilean, who infuriated Gunners fans with his goal celebration at the Emirates last month, has failed to meet expectations following his Old Trafford switch
ARSENAL legend Marc Overmars believes Alexis Sanchez could make a shocking return to the Emirates after his unsuccessful spell at Manchester United.
The Chilean has been in terrible form since his controversial Old Trafford move, scoring only one Premier League goal this season.
Sanchez took the Premier League by storm after joining Arsenal in 2014, and became one of English football's brightest stars scoring 80 goals in 166 games for the Gunners.
But he has failed to live up to the hype following the Old Trafford switch he forced through, finding the net just five times for the Red Devils since January 2018.
The 30-year-old Chilean seemed to have burnt his bridges with Arsenal after he mocked Gunners fans following the Red Devils' FA Cup win at the Emirates last month - in which he also provocatively celebrated a goal he scored.
But Ajax director of football Overmars - also wanted by the Gunners for the position of Director of Football - believes his former club would welcome the Chilean as Arsenal have not managed to sign a player of a similar calibre since his departure.

He told : "I have great respect for Alexis, because he did extremely well in Arsenal, I do not know if it was a good decision to leave.
"English football changes you, it turns you around, it took me a step forward.
"Arsene Wenger arrived a year before me, Dennis Bergkamp made a big impression in England, it was a fantastic time, I think we changed the history of the club a bit.
"This type of players were very important for Arsenal, because that’s where they take you to focus, after Alexis, Arsenal tried to sign another player like that, but he was not given, so he could go back to Arsenal."
Sanchez endured a difficult time under the sacked Jose Mourinho and reportedly wanted to leave United having fallen out with the Portuguese manager.
He has also been crippled by numerous fitness problems, with the Gunners reportedly letting their star go last year amid fears of his burnout.
But, despite the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his performances have not improved, and the Norwegian coach recently hit out at the £400,000-per-week winger for his bland cameo against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Solskjaer said: "I can't do anything about Alexis Sanchez. When he plays he needs to find himself."
