MANCHESTER UNITED remain keen on Sporting Lisbon's midfield goal machine Bruno Fernandes and could get him in a cut-price transfer, according to reports.
The Portugal international, 24, has been heavily linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford amid the Lisbon club's financial woes.
According to Portuguese newspaper Sporting's financial problems have escalated to such an extent they must raise around £40million by June.
The Red Devils have reportedly scheduled a meeting with Fernandes' agent for next week to strike a slashed deal for the star who previously had a £90m release clause.
The Sporting Lisbon captain has been in red-hot form this season, scoring an impressive 22 goals and making 11 assists in his 40 appearances this term.
Sporting vice president Franciso Salgado Zenha recently admitted the Lisbon club may lose their star man, who is also wanted by AC Milan and Liverpool, on the cheap.
Speaking on Portuguese TV channel TVI24, and cited by A Bola, he said: "To my knowledge, there are no proposals. Are there any interested? Certainly.
"For 100 million he goes. Any value below, the decision has to be taken together.
" The way to manage football is not exclusively about money.
"If there is a good proposal, if it makes sense, it might be accepted, but we have no decision made on that."

It was previously reported that Sporting are still trying to convince Fernandes to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite his current contract running until 2023.
Fernandes has scored seven goals in his last eight matches, including a fine free-kick in the 3-0 victory over Braga last month.
The 24-year-old could become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing as permanent manager of United after Sun Sport revealed the Norwegian would be appointed this summer.
However, the former Udinese midfielder may be tempted by Milan's offer to bring him back to Italy, the country Fernandes spent the majority of his career playing in.
