FOOTBALL boss Brendan Rodgers’ wife and step-daughter fled into a bathroom to escape masked burglars in their £1.6million home.

Charlotte Searle, 35, and six-year-old daughter Lola are believed to have been woken by the raiders at 2am and huddled together in the main bedroom.

They cowered in terror as the thieves shone torches in their eyes, before screaming at them and locking themselves in the bathroom.

The burglars’ haul is thought to include trophies won by Rodgers, 46, during his three years at Celtic.

A neighbour said: “Charlotte and Lola were absolutely terrified.”

The pair’s nightmare in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden came days after Rodgers left Scottish champions Celtic.

He was not at home at the time and a few hours later was in charge of training at new club Leicester City.

A neighbour in Glasgow described how the raiders ran through her garden, which backs on to the Rodgers’ home.

She said: “We were woken up by our dogs barking and there were police looking about in our garden.

“I believe they have CCTV but I think their faces were covered. It looks like they might have climbed through our garden to their getaway car.”

Another neighbour said: “They might have thought the house was empty or, even worse, known they were home alone.”

Rodgers’ decision to leave Celtic sparked a furious backlash from some fans — including death threats.

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson tweeted: “Football I know stokes up people’s emotions but it’s sickening to hear that burglars have ransacked belongings from Brendan Rodgers house in Glasgow while his family were in the property.”

Charlotte was being comforted by friends at the rented mansion, which is owned by Optical Express boss David Moulsdale, 50.
