FORMULA E stars battled agains a Roma Legends XI captained by Francesco Totti in a 10-goal thriller.
Felipe Massa lined up alongside British drivers Sam Bird, Gary Paffett, Oliver Rowland and Oliver Turvey, swapping their fire-proof overalls for football kits just days ahead of the Rome E-Prix.
Totti's Roma XI were held to a 5-5 draw despite his side featuring fellow World Cup winners Marco Amelia, Simone Perrotta, Bruno Conti and Vincent Candela.
Former Ferrari legends Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella both got themselves on the scoresheet while former Roma forward Marco Delvecchio netted a hat-trick for the hosts.
Bromley-born driver Paffett netted the opening goal for the FE side against against former Chelsea and AC Milan 'keeper Amelia.
The HWA driver said: “It was great to go up against the likes of Francesco and all of those guys are still super skilful despite being retired.
“They made us run really hard so we’re probably all going to be destroyed because of it.
“It was one of my first goals. It was great to be out there and put myself in the right place at the right time to score the goal – to be honest it wasn’t the hardest to score but it was great fun.”
The donations raised from the match will go towards Roma Cares with the aim of promoting education and positive values in sport - and Associazione Andrea Tudisco Onlus, which helps children access specialised medical assistance in Rome.
The drivers will have to dust themselves down ahead of Saturday's race as we could see a seventh different winner this season from seven races.
