Man Utd and City in £55m bidding war for ‘unhappy’ Juventus defender Cancelo
Reports in Italy claim Manchester giants are both desperate to land 24-year-old Portuguese
MANCHESTER UNITED and Man City are set to go head to head in the battle to land Juventus defender Joao Cancelo, according to reports.
The Portuguese right-back, 24, has been identified as the perfect defensive replacement, says .
And they cite a story from Tuttosport, who say both Manchester clubs could offer up to as much as £55million for him.
Cancelo has been rumoured to have a tense relationship with boss Max Allegri.
This was not helped by the fact he 'liked' an #AllegriOut post on Instagram.
But Cancelo, who joined the recently crowned Serie A champs for £35m last summer, has denied any such rift.
The defender has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season.
But he has been unable to nail down a regular place in Allegri’s starting XI, with Mattia De Sciglio often preferred in the bigger games.
United are said to have scouted Cancelo during Juventus’ win at Napoli in March.
And the Portugal international is apparently open to joining the Red Devils as a replacement for Antonio Valencia.
SunSport told you yesterday how reports claimed United were ready to offer £42m for Cancelo.
