Monaco ePrix: Jean-Eric Vergne cruises to victory as Felipe Massa claims maiden podium
Brit Oliver Rowland finished on the podium for a second time this season
JEAN-ERIC VERGNE cruised to victory in Monaco after starting on pole position.
Brit Oliver Rowland finished second ahead of Felipe Massa in third with the Brazilian finishing on the podium for the first time since joining Formula E.
Pascal Weihrlein started in second but missed out on the podium and finished fourth after a costly mistake just ten minutes into the race.
The former F1 star locked up at turn one and his slight error saw both Rowland and Massa clinically pass.
A nail-biting final lap saw the top four all battling to the chequered flag with Vergne and Massa finishing with just one per cent of energy and Rowland with two per cent remaining.
WOUNDED BIRD
Sam Bird's rotten luck continued in Monte Carlo, after qualifying in 14th he made up EIGHT places to sixth position.
But all his hard work was undone when he received a puncture on the last lap which forced him to retire from the race, just two turns away from the finish line.
Vergne became the first driver to win two races this season after an extraordinary campaign saw eight different winners from eight races prior to the Monaco ePrix.
The defending champion's first win came in Sanya in March as he now leads the championship by 5 points ahead of his Techeetah teammate Andre Lotterer.
Vergne said: "Being my first podium in Monaco and being a win, I am extremely happy and it's an incredible feeling.
"The race was pretty much under control, when I wanted to push I could create a gap big enough.
"It was just a question of staying on track and finishing the race."
