ARSENAL head of football relations Raul Sanllehi claims Aaron Ramsey priced himself out of a new contract because the club allowed him to enter the final year of his deal.

Sanllehi bitterly regrets the fact that fans’ favourite Ramsey is leaving the Emirates for Juventus as a free agent.

As Rambo had a look around his new club's ground in Turin with his son, the Spaniard has vowed to make sure that no other Arsenal stars will follow Ramsey’s path through the Emirates exit.

Sanllehi explained: “The real problem with Aaron was that we had reached the last year of his contract and we needed to renew with him before then.

“We put ourselves in a very weak position and it’s not correct for us to be losing a player of Aaron’s quality. We have to avoid that happening again.

“We have the highest respect for Aaron as a professional and he was really keen on staying with us.

“But by not renewing with Aaron on time we found ourselves in a situation in which he had incredible offers building up on his salary from other clubs.

“That’s when we realised that we were going to cause an imbalance that would have been very harmful for the team’s sake in the medium and the longer term.

“So at the end of the whole process we had to be responsible and protect the interests of Arsenal.”

Ramsey will officially become a Bianconeri player when his Arsenal contract expires on July 1, but he recently got acquainted with his new home.

The Welshman took his son for a behind the scenes tour of his new club Juventus, taking in the 41,500-seater arena ahead of his switch to Italy.

And Sanllehi insists the club have learned their lesson the hard way and makes it clear that no player will be allowed to enter the final year of their contract again.

He told Arsenal.com: “If we cannot get a renewal before that, then we may have to sell. Now we have to be responsible in how we manage the club.”
