Anthony Joshua’s rematch vs Andy Ruiz Jr could take place in Saudi desert with ‘lucrative offer’ on the table

ANTHONY JOSHUA'S shot at redemption against Andy Ruiz Jr could be in SAUDI ARABIA.

Talks are still continuing for the much-anticipated rematch after Ruiz delivered one of boxing's biggest ever shocks to become unified heavyweight champ.

The Mexican floored Joshua four times on the way to a seventh-round stoppage in New York in June.

The defeated Brit said yesterday that he wants the rematch to be on “neutral ground” suggesting  The Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

He told : "We're doing a lot of talking about what he wants but he doesn't call the shots I don't mind fighting in America because I've done it before.

"I went there off my own back so for the rematch I would love it to be in Cardiff but it's going to be on neutral ground; Ruiz is the champ so he will make some calls.

"I will battle for it to be in the UK because it's my stomping ground."

DUST-UP IN THE DESERT?

But according to , there could well be a left-field option.

He wrote: ";There’s a very real possibility the Andy Ruiz-Anthony Joshua heavyweight title rematch heads to Saudi Arabia.

"Organisers are making a strong push to stage the rematch. The country continues to show a keen interest in luring boxing events of similar magnitude."

Recently Amir Khan battered Billy Dib in Saudi, and the country also hosted the World Boxing Super Series final between Callum Smith and George Groves.

 

AJ's promoter Eddie Hearn revealed recently that he is looking into offers “around the world” for possible locations to hold the rematch.

He said: "I know, I think, where the fight is going, but I just have to wait for some paperwork to be tied up and then we'll make an announcement.

"Cardiff is still a major option. We have two or three other options around the world for neutral venues."
