Eddie Battye spoke to clubs before staying at London – even if they go down

EDDIE Battye admits he held talks with other clubs before sticking with his Capital gains - even though London will be 'gone' with defeat.

And the forward believes none of the progress the Broncos have made can be lost, even if they are relegated.

The equation for Hull KR is simple - win and they are safe, likely to be sending Danny Ward's men back to the Championship.

However, Battye is staying put come what may after signing a two-year contact, even though others showed their hand.

Battye said: “There were talks with a couple of clubs up north but nothing really materialised. I’m playing well here and it made sense for me to re-sign.

“This game is a massive one for us, the biggest one for us this year and probably for Hull KR as well. If we don’t win, basically we’re gone. All our hard work will be for nothing.

“We feel we’ve progressed but generally at the end of the season the table doesn’t lie – the best team is at the top and the worst at the bottom.

“Yes we’ve exceeded expectations – not ours but the ones of many who thought we may not win a game.

“We’ve had a good chat among ourselves about what this game means but if we play to our potential, we’ve got enough in us to beat both Hull KR and then Wakefield.

“And whatever happens, I don’t think the club will lose the progress it has made. Everyone’s learned from this year and we’ll be better for it – the club’s going in the right direction.”

Hull KR took a giant stride towards safety by beating Catalans Dragons but Battye will be hoping for a repeat of his Wembley double to take the survival battle into the final week.

He watched pal Matt Davis win the Challenge Cup with Warrington then witnessed former club Sheffield win the 1895 Cup.

Battye, who hit the headlines because of a hilarious try celebration video, ended up being part of the celebrations, much to the annoyance of stewards, and a win at Craven Park will be marked just as vehemently.

The 28-year-old added: “It was a great day, I was so happy for Matt then Sheffield.

“After the Sheffield game, I celebrated with them as I’ve a lot of good mates there and I stopped them for pictures as they made their way down the steps.

“But I probably wasn’t supposed to be where I was and the stewards were asking me who I was and why I was there!”
