Jamie McDonnell retains his WBA bantamweight title after controversial unanimous points win over Liborio Solis

JAMIE MCDONELL controversially keeps hold of his WBA bantamweight title after an impressive performance from Liborio Solis.
The Brit unanimously won the fight despite Solis being quick out of the traps and maintaining his tempo as McDonnell struggled to find his rhythm in the fight.
Solis was a dangerous opponent for McDonnell as he has previously held two world titles at super-flyweight.

McDonnell started bleeding from the nose in the first round after he took a flurry of punches whilst being stuck on the ropes.
Solis continued his frenetic start and began dictating the fight in the opening few rounds, with McDonell struggling to get a foothold in the fight.
McDonnell found it difficult to cope with the hand speed of the 34-year-old and he was made to pay for his slow start as his face began to swell.

The first half of the fight was executed to a tee by the Venezuelan and he stunned McDonnell in in eighth round which resulted in a cut around his left eye.
In round nine McDonnell began to find his rhythm as he began to land combinations before connecting with a left a hook which rattled Solis.
In the latter rounds McDonnell's trainer Dave Coldwell made it clear he only had a matter of minutes to salvage a win but even after the final bell, spectators thought he would lose his title.
But to the shock of the fans in attendance and the pundits ringside, Solis lost his undefeated record and McDonnell retained his title.
