Scott Quigg misses weight ahead of world title bout against Oscar Valdez
SCOTT QUIGG'S world title dream has been derailed after he missed his weight.
The Brit, 29, is taking on WBO featherweight champ Oscar Valdez in California on Saturday night.
But Valdez's belt will no longer be up for grabs as Quigg came in 2.8lbs over the limit.
California rules mean the challenger will not be allowed another attempt in two hours as he was over 2lbs too heavy.
Former WBA "regular" super-bantamweight champion Quigg, 29, has been steadily rebuilding since his shattering loss to arch rival Carl Frampton in February of 2016.
A trio of low-key wins followed and there was not an ounce of doubt when he was offered a crack at Valdez, who has 23 wins from 23 fights with 19 knockouts.
Speaking ahead of the fight, Quigg said: “I think we sparred four or five times. We had some wars, if that's anything to go by then Saturday will be a cracker.
“I can't see us moving and boxing, it might start off that way.

“But after so long, we will just meet in the middle of that ring and I believe I'll get the job done inside the distance.
“The win puts me at the top of the pecking order, it will catapult me back to where I was.”
