The Brit seemed to have quit in the sixth round after getting hit with a shot below the belt from the WBO champ.

The shot did not result in Crawford's disqualification as it was not intentional.

But Khan, 32, could have taken five minutes to rest and try to recover.

The Bolton man, however, did not wait and called it a night, saying he could not move after taking the hit.

The referee called the fight off ruling a technical stoppage, and Crawford, 31, retained his WBO welterweight title.

But Khan then tweeted that in fact he wanted to carry on, but Hunter rushed to stop his world title challenge.

He wrote: "I have never quit a fight in my life, my understanding was that Virgil asked me if the low blow still hurt and I said yes.

"My intention was to wait it out and continue like always."

However, Hunter claimed after the fight that it was Khan who said he couldn't continue in a conversation with him by the ropes.

The trainer said: "He indicated to me that he was hit in the test and it took the life out of him, I have to take his word for it,’

"I don’t think he was looking for a way out of the fight.

"He started picking up on Crawford’s rhythm and we don’t know how it would have played out. ‘He indicated he was hit wit a bad shot."
