Fury’s rematch against Wilder set for Vegas as Bob Arum vows it could be ‘bigger than Mayweather vs Pacquiao’

TYSON FURY'S rematch with Deontay Wilder looks set to be held in Las Vegas after his promoter Bob Arum all but confirmed it after his victory over Tom Schwarz.

The Gypsy King emphatically stopped the German in the second round and Arum thinks the next step could be huge for Fury - claiming the Wilder rematch could be 'bigger than Mayweather vs Pacquiao'.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's 2015 bout was dubbed the fight of the century and grossed more than $400million.

But Arum is sure those eye-watering figures can be eclipsed so long as the clash is staged in Sin City.

'BELONGS IN LAS VEGAS'

Speaking at a press conference after the Gypsy King's whitewash in Las Vegas, Arum was asked whether a New York fight would be a possibility as the shorter flight times might benefit British fans.

But keen to maximise revenues, Arum said: "The difference is , if it's a massive fight like this would be, like Mayweather vs Pacquiao or Canelo v Golovkin it belongs in Las Vegas.

"Because the casinos bring in the biggest punters therefore the prices are sky high.

"The gate that would do £2million in the O2 in London or that would do two or three million dollars in New York would do $30million in Las Vegas.

"It has the infrastructure to handle a big fight.

"So without any commitment from anybody I would think Las Vegas would be the likely place for that fight.";

After making bold comparisons to two mega-fights, Arum reinforced his views when asked if he thought Wilder v Fury II could become the biggest grossing boxing match in history.

Why wouldn't it be?

He said: "Why wouldn't it be?

"People always - when I was in the business for many years - always looked for the big big heavyweight fights.

"Ali vs Frazer, that did more business than any fight had ever done up to that point.

"I can't see why this wouldn't happen and particularly when it matches somebody from the UK who is not coming over as an opponent but a co-equal with an American.

"It's got to - reasonably speaking - do tremendous business on Pay-per-view."

While he would not be pressed on exact dates, Arum did confirm the fight could not clash with any major sporting events in the UK or in the States.

However, before the mega-money bout can take place Wilder must overcome Luiz Ortiz in a rematch announced last month.

But despite the risk an Ortiz victory poses to Fury's second chance at the Bronze bomber, he is not worried.

With a cheeky glint in his eye, Fury said: "It doesn't concern me. Luis Ortiz like I've said before is 147 years old so Wilder should knock him out quicker than he did last time.

"I believe Wilder will get him out of there in a couple of rounds.

"Catch him early and he's gone.

"He's got no legs under him the guy.

"Like I said, he's 147 years old.

"I'm not concerned but even if the worst does happen and Wilder gets chinned, whenever a door closes another one opens.

"What's meant to be will be.

"We can't alter what's going to happen in the future.

"I can only control myself and do what I have got to do."
