England captain Eoin Morgan ends brilliant year with £565,000 Indian Premier League bonus
EOIN MORGAN ended his triumphant year with a £565,000 Indian Premier League bonus.
England’s World Cup-winning captain was signed for that price by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auction in Kolkata yesterday.
It is more than double the salary Morgan, 33, had earned in the tournament.
He went unsold in the two previous auctions but World Cup glory has transformed his value.
He will link up in April with pal and mentor Brendon McCullum, the former New Zealand skipper who is now head coach at KKR.
Morgan, who played for KKR between 2011 and 2013, entered the auction at £161,000 and became the subject of a bidding war between McCullum and Delhi Capitals.
It caps an incredible few months for Morgan, who led England to their first 50-over World Cup win in the dramatic final against New Zealand.
