Pogba doubt for Man Utd’s huge Arsenal clash with ankle injury as Shaw faces race to be fit
PAUL POGBA is struggling to be fit for Monday’s game against Arsenal after suffering a recurrence of his ankle injury.
Pogba missed three games after twisting his right ankle against Southampton.
Now after taking a knock in the closing moments of the midweek Carabao Cup game with Rochdale he is struggling again.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that was also the reason why Pogba missed a team bonding meal arranged by David de Gea after the midweek game.
Solskjaer said: “The situation is he finished the game. He did 90 mins which is fantastic, but he got a knock to his ankle which is very swollen so it was better not to go there with the team.
“He's in a race for Monday.”
Pogba looked a dispirited figure on Wednesday night and SunSport revealed how he is ready to push for a move out the club in the New Year.
Still his absence for Monday is another big blow for under-pressure boss Solskjaer who will also be without Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial again.
Luke Shaw has an outside chance of playing on Monday, but having only just returned to training remains doubtful.
Solskjaer said: "Luke’s back in training today so let’s see how he is, he’s getting there so let’s see how he reacts the next couple of days.
"He’s been working really hard, [we] hope to see him before international break.”
The 1-1 midweek draw with Rochdale brought more questions than answers again despite the team winning the third round tie on penalty kicks.
But Solskjaer insists the team is still on the right tracks.
He said: “I never said it was gonna be easy this season, said it many times there are gonna be ups and downs, highs and lows.
