The elbow buckles horribly under the body of Lloris to leave the Spurs star screaming in agony

Lloris, 32, had spilled the ball on his own line dealing with a high cross, gifting Brighton the lead through Neal Maupay in the third minute at the Amex Stadium.

While the Seagulls ran off in celebration, the World Cup winning goalkeeper was left writhing in pain at the back of his own net.

Worried team-mates called the Spurs medics onto the pitch where they found the team captain unable to move.

Specialist first administered some laughing gas to the stricken star in an effort to dull the pain.

And as played was held up for six minutes, they then placed an oxygen mask on the player in order to attempt to control his breathing.

Lloris was finally lifted carefully onto a stretcher where he was carried away to the dressing rooms where morphine was administered, and he was then rushed by ambulance to a local hospital.

The Spurs star was left screaming in agony as medics rushed to his aid

It was a nightmare start to the match for Spurs – their first game since their 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Just when manager Mauricio Pochettino was hoping for an instant response, the error put his side on the back foot immediately.

But those frustrations were put to one side when it quickly became apparent just how serious an injury Lloris had suffered.

Argentinian goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga was forced to come straight onto the pitch as his replacement as Spurs were forced into an instant reshuffle.

The likelihood is that Lloris will not be forced to spend a long period on the sidelines, leaving the North London club short on options between the posts.

It means youngster Alfie Wightman is now likely to be elevated to become the back-up keeper at least until the January transfer window.
