Adama Traore hits double to sink the champions and hand Liverpool title edge

ADAMA TRAORE struck twice in the second half as Wolves stunned champions Manchester City at the Etihad.

The makeshift full-back calmly slotted past Ederson late on after great work by Raul Jiminez - as the visitors finally took one of their chances.

And in stoppage time - with the home side committed to attack - the Spaniard raced clear to make the points safe.

It was a disastrous day for Pep Guardiola's off-colour side who now find themselves eight points behind runaway leaders Liverpool after just eight games.

In truth, Wolves were kicking themselves for not taking a first half lead as City struggled to get going.

First Patrick Cutrone sprang the offside trap and raced clear but never looked confident and clipped his shot well wide.

Then a terrible pass from Riyad Mahrez put Raul Jiminez in - with Fernandinho getting back well to block his effort.

The rebound fell to Cutrone, whose effort also struck the veteran Brazilian and City had once again escaped.

Within minutes a third chance went begging as Nicolas Otamendi's pass was intercepted by Jiminez.

The Mexican got a nudge in the back from Fernandinho and ended up pushing the ball too far and Ederson was able to gather.

City took over half an hour to muster any efforts on goal with Raheem Sterling's shot pushed away by Rui Patricio.

Then a cross from Joao Cancelo was nodded back into the area by Sergio Aguero but Conor Coady got back to clear from under his own bar.

Guardiola made a surprise call at the break, bringing on Alex Zinchenko in place of Kyle Walker - who was once again left out of the England squad this week.

And while City looked more comfortable they struggled to open up the visitors without the creative spark of Kevin de Bruyne.

David Silva hit a free-kick against the bar while Bernardo's effort hit the heels of Sergio Aguero - it was that kind of day for City.

And to make matters worse Cancelo gave the ball away allowing Jiminez to race clear and square the ball for Traore to score.

Jesus almost rescued a point for City but his flick header was clawed away by Patricio - as they failed to score at home for the first time in 17 months.

And then Traore with the home side pushed right up, Traore raced clear to score with almost a carbon copy of his opener.
