Besiktas ‘interested in shock move’ for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard

STEVEN GERRARD could soon be offered the chance to reignite his memories of Istanbul and take charge of Besiktas.
Reports in Turkey suggest the ailing Black Eagles are considering the Rangers boss should they sack under-fire coach Abdullah Avci.
Gerrard, also linked to Leeds United, has only been in senior club management for 15 months and guided the Ibrox club to second-place last season, nine points behind winners Celtic.
But Rangers are leading the pack after eight games this time round and that has piqued Besiktas' interest.
Turkish football journalist Mehmet Demirkol told BeIN Sports on Friday that Gerrard is one of a number of candidates for the Besiktas job.
The Super Lig side finish third last year but have won only two of nine games this season.
Two defeats in the Europa League, most recently at home to Wolves, have been matched by similarly poor domestic showings to leave them 12th in the table.
However it is expected that Gerrard and Rangers will reject any bid to snap up the former Liverpool midfielder.
