JACK RODWELL is holding talks with Parma over a dream move to Italy.

The ex-Manchester City midfielder, 28, had a deal with Roma fall through this week - but a move to Serie A as a free agent is still on.

Rodwell has been training with Parma and looking at a deal until the end of the season, which would give him time to prove his fitness.

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca decided against signing Rodwell after moving centre-back Gianluca Mancini into midfield but he impressed enough to get a recommendation to other clubs.

Gianluca Petrachi, sporting director at the Italian giants, is a long-term admirer of Rodwell and also endorsed him to Daniele Faggiano when the Parma chief was looking for a midfielder.

Rodwell could now be part of boss Roberto D’Aversa’s squad as they look to climb the table from 14th place in Serie A.

He has been looking for a club since leaving Blackburn last season and would join a Parma squad that includes ex-Arsenal forward Gervinho.

If he is able to secure a contract it would open up an unexpected chance to revive his career in the top level of the Italian game.

Rodwell was tipped to be a future star when he came through the ranks at Everton and when he joined City he was expected to take his game to the next level.

But injuries hampered his progress and he was sold to Sunderland where things did not work out for him before moving to Blackburn.
