EX ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger is on a four-man shortlist to replace Niko Kovac at Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The 48-year-old was sacked by Bayern chiefs after a dismal run that culminated in a 5-1 humiliation at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Since their stunning 7-2 win over Tottenham, Bayern had lost to Hoffenheim and drawn with Augsburg - and Saturday's rout in Frankfurt proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Kovac.
Jerome Boateng's ninth minute red card made things difficult.
And goals from Filip Kostic, Djibril Sow, David Abraham, Martin Hinteregger and Goncalo Pacienca condemned Bayern to an embarrassing defeat.
According to , Arsene Wenger could be the man to replace the former Croatia manager in the Allianz Arena hotseat.
Bayern chiefs are believed to be seeking an experienced pair of hands after having taken a risk on Kovac.
Wenger, 70, has been out of a job since leaving Arsenal in May 2018.
But the Frenchman is known to speak fluent German and could be an attractive short-term option for the Bundesliga giants.
The frontrunner for the job, however, is believed to be Ralf Rangnick.
The 61-year-old former Schalke and Leipzig coach is interested in the job - but will have to be convinced to leave his position as head of sport and development at Red Bull.
The other two candidates are Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and ex Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Ten Hag's stock is high after leading the Dutch side to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
However his lack of experience could hinder his chances of getting the job.
Although he does know the club well, having been B team coach at Bayern between 2013 and 2015.
Allegri's top-level experience and extensive trophy cabinet is attractive to club chiefs.
But they are wary of appointing a non-German speaker, after Carlo Ancelotti struggled to connect with the players during his tenure.

Allegri's agent Giovanni Branchini does have extensive experience in working with Bayern, however, which could swing things in the Italian's favour.
Wenger's old nemesis in the Premier League Jose Mourinho is also being linked with the job.
But Uli Hoeness is not interested in appointing the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager.
