Hertha Berlin erect amazing replica of the Berlin Wall on their pitch to celebrate 30th anniversary of its fall
HERTHA BERLIN marked the 30th anniversary of the city's infamous wall being torn down with a spectacular replica splitting their pitch in half.
Hertha also wore a special kit for their Bundesliga clash with RB Leipzig as Germany commemorates East reuniting with West after a concrete wall split the country from 1911-1989.
With players warming up either side of the replica, the message on it read: “Together against walls, together for Berlin.”
The pitch-wide wall was then ripped apart in another symbolic repeat of the momentous night in 1989 when the former Communist East became part of the Western world.
Hertha tweeted: "Today we play without walls, without borders. We play together for a unified Berlin and Germany."
Fans on social media praised Hertha, with comments like: "Amazing, so creative and a powerful statement" and "Very cool indeed".
And showing how universal the anniversary can be seen, one Brit posted: "I’m over from Scotland to see today’s game."
But some supporters noticed how players looked scared as part so the wall tumbled down towards them.
