DAVID BECKHAM has been picking up the phone and pleading with players to help him realise his MLS dream.

Becks is in constant contact with Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough who has been blown away by the former England skipper’s openness and ability to speak to any club on the planet.

Inter Miami are set to start in MLS next season and announced on Wednesday that the first game at their new home in Fort Lauderdale on March 14th will be against Beckham’s former team, LA Galaxy.

Miami still have no manager, the stadium is a building site and only a smattering of players are on board.

But McDonough, with the help of Beckham’s contacts book, reckons the two remaining big name ‘designated player’ spots  - highly-rated 19 year old Argentine forward Matias Pellegrini was snapped up in July and became the first DP - and a new boss will be in place by the end of the year.

He cannot thank Becks enough and told SunSport: "I spoke to David this morning for an hour, even though he was travelling.

"I was updating him and getting his impressions on things. David isn’t here in Miami every day but every day he has a touch point with the club.

“I asked him today to call a couple of players I spoke to yesterday. I told him ‘they want to hear from you’ and so he’s very involved.

"You cannot put a price on having someone of his standing in the game involved with us.

“It’s amazing to think about the capacity he has to help out and what he can do for the team. I have been surprised by just how hands on he has been.

“At the start I just didn’t know. I grew up watching him playing for Manchester United so when I came to the club and met him for the first time, the relationship began to grow.

"But I have seen how enthused he is, how he wants to do things the right way. It definitely gives us an edge.”

Radamel Falcao, Luis Suarez, James Rodriguez, and David Silva have all been linked with moves to South Florida.

The plan is to stay in Fort Lauderdale, which is around 30 minutes north of Miami and where the training facility will also be, until a stadium in Miami is built but a sea of red-tape and political wrangles means plans have been put on hold.
