MANCHESTER UNITED are said to be confident of keeping Tahith Chong at the club on a £25,000-a-week deal despite interest from Juventus.

Reports last week claimed Old Trafford chiefs feared losing Chong on a free to the Serie A side - just as they did Paul Pogba.

Chong, 19, hinted he had been offered a new deal by United when speaking last week but said he will discuss with his family what is best for his future.

The now say United are sure they can keep hold of the Dutch winger, who has made just four appearances all season.

They say a £25,000-a-week deal plus bonuses has been put on the table.

It is believed the new offer is a huge increase on the former Feyenoord man's current salary.

And it is said the club have pointed out his promotion from reserve side regular to first-team squad member as a sign of how highly he is rated.

Chong, who joined United in 2016, was coy when talking of his future last week.

He said: "It's early right now. I'm still a player of Manchester United and the season is in full swing.

"My focus is on that.

"The contract will come naturally. I am now focusing on this season."

Should the Dutchman refuse to sign a new deal with the Red Devils he could well follow in the footsteps of Pogba - who moved to Turin after running down his contract with United in 2012.

United were ultimately made to pay dearly to the tune of £89million, a then world record fee, to re-sign Pogba four years later.

Chong previously turned down the chance to return to Feyenoord or join PSV Eindhoven in favour of playing for Solskjaer.

Pogba has also sparked talk of a possible return to Turin by posing for a photo with former Juventus team-mate Juan Cuadrado.

But his most likely destination looks to be Real Madrid, with United getting Gareth Bale in return.
