MANCHESTER UNITED are hopeful of landing Erling Haaland — after boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a personal trip to meet him.
United must see off rivals Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
But Ole hopes his face-to-face meeting in Austria will have helped clinch a deal for RB Salzburg’s star, 19.
Solskjaer said: “He knows what he wants to do and what he’s going to do.”
Ideally United would like to land Haaland next month — although a deal in the summer seems more likely.
Solskjaer’s comments suggest the teen ace has made his mind up — and the fact United are not backing away sounds promising.
They could have done with a finisher of that quality yesterday after wasting a host of chances in the 1-1 draw with Everton.
Solskjaer marks his one-year anniversary in charge at United this week — and has one point less than Jose Mourinho had when he got the sack.
Yet they are much closer to the top four than the Special One was — and Ole feels there are promising signs.
He said: “We’re on the right track. I’m looking forward to going in on Monday because these boys want to improve.

“We are a work in progress, these young boys are learning. I can’t fault any of them, we played against a good team.”
Mason Greenwood, 18, levelled in the 77th minute after Victor Lindelof’s own goal.
And Solskjaer said of his teenage striker: “It’s just so natural for him, if you open your legs he goes through them, if you close them he bends it round you.”
