DARREN BENT has announced that he will be coming out of retirement to play for Wycombe Wanderers.

The former England international had called an end to his playing career after finishing a season-long loan spell at Burton Albion from Derby County in 2018.

But the 35-year-old has posted a video of himself with burly Wycombe hitman Adebayo Akinfenwa, in which he confirms that he's signed for the Chairboys.

In the video, after Akinfenwa announces the signing of Bent, the ex-Tottenham man says: "I'm delighted to have signed for Wycombe.

"They're a great club, a great squad, I know a few of the players really well.

"Can't wait to get going."

When Akinfenwa asks Bent what he'll bring to the team, he responds: "Hopefully goals, bit of experience, goals - a strike partner for yourself.

"Looking forward to it."

Wycombe themselves haven't posted an announcement, however - and Bent isn't wearing any club apparel in the video.

And some fans think that the move is a hoax.

One wrote: "Why haven’t the club announced this? If it’s a joke it’s cruel....."

While another asked: "Is that legit?"

A third added: "Why have wycombe signed Darren Bent then wtf surely a wind up."

Gareth Ainsworth's side are currently flying high at the top of League One and sit seven points clear of second place Ipswich - one of Bent's former clubs.
