Man Utd shock as stats prove Fred is faster than speedsters Rashford, James… and a roadrunner

Fred amazingly has outpaced Marcus Rashford and Daniel James for Manchester United this season

FRED is the quickest player at Manchester United this season - and would outpace a roadrunner.

The shock stats from Opta show that the Brazilian holding midfielder has clocked the top speed for the Red Devils across the current campaign.

He hit a very impressive 23.17mph during the 1-1 draw against Everton at Old Trafford.

And that puts him ahead of speedsters Marcus Rashford and Daniel James at the club.

Unsurprisingly, the two forwards dominate the figures detailing which United player recorded the quickest pace in their Premier League games this season.

In 15 of their first 17 matches, either James or Rashford came out on top.

The match against Crystal Palace in August saw the England striker hit 22.56mph while Welsh wizard James managed 22.18mph in the 3-3 draw at Sheffield United.

Jesse Lingard's speed of 21.39mph was faster than any of his team-mates in the Manchester derby in December.

Although the Manchester United speed merchants appear to have competition from academy starlet Deji Sotona.

The winger reportedly clocked 22.9mph at the beginning of the season, 1.2mph quicker than anyone else during the tests at Carrington.

Teenager Sotona was crowned Ireland's Under-14 sprint champion aged just 12 and has played for the Republic of Ireland at youth level, although he could also represent England.

Romelu Lukaku faced a backlash from his former employers when he revealed the Manchester United speed rankings during pre-season.

Then, Dalot came out on top with a speed of 22.6mph followed by Lukaku's 22.5mph, Tahith Chong's 22.3mph, Rashford's 22.1mph and James' 22mph.

Incredibly, all of those speeds outdo a typical roadrunner, with the desert birds generally maxing out at around 20mph.

Some roadrunners, however, have been recorded doing up to 27mph - so it is little wonder they often prefer to sprint than fly.

Fred struggled in his first season in England last time out following his £52million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in June 2018.

But after being left out of the first four matches of this Premier League campaign, he has featured in every game since.

He is yet to pick up a goal or assist but has played an important role shielding the defence with his defensive qualities.
