MESUT OZIL "surprised" fellow Arsenal stars with his humility when he signed for the Gunners from Real Madrid, according to Mohamed Elneny.
The German international arrived at the Emirates to much fanfare in 2013 after dazzling supporters during his successful three year stint at Real Madrid.
His £42.5million deadline day move from the Bernabeu lead to much excitement, and Elneny expected Ozil to be arrogant.
However he turned out to be quite the opposite.
Elneny told : "When Mesut joined from Real Madrid I thought he would be arrogant and full of himself after playing at such a big club.
"However, he is so humble and respectful.
"He never saw himself above the club. There are footballers playing at far smaller clubs who have got a far bigger ego.
"Mesut surprised me and my team-mates at Arsenal, everyone has respect for him."
Elneny joined the Gunners in January 2016 from Basel, and quickly struck up a strong friendship with Ozil.
The Egyptian was phased out last season under Unai Emery, however, and found himself surplus to requirements at the Emirates.
And when he was farmed out on loan to Besiktas, Ozil was keen to help his friend settle in Turkey.

Elneny said: "With Mesut we are like brothers.
"Before I moved to Turkey he was who I spoke to, he assisted me, I could ask him anything and asked about Besiktas, he advised me on my transfer."
Ozil is back in favour at the Emirates after temporarily being frozen out earlier this season by former manager Unai Emery.
