Scott McTominay is just a modern day Robbie Savage, taunts Paul Parker – but Welshman reckons Man Utd ace is way better
FORMER Manchester United star Paul Parker has taunted Scott McTominay, saying he's just a "modern-day Robbie Savage " - but the Welshman himself disagrees.
Former United star Parker, 55, lashed out at United and their "problem" midfield - suggesting McTominay would never have broken into the Old Trafford teams of old.
Savage, 45, was famously a part of United's "Class of 92" alongside the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and the Neville brothers.
But the 39-cap former Wales international failed to make a single Premier League appearance under Sir Alex Ferguson and joined Crewe in 1994, before spells at clubs including Leicester, Birmingham, Blackburn and Derby.
After Parker's comment, Savage hit back saying McTominay, 23, is a far superior player and the new star man at the Theatre of Dreams.
Parker, who won the double with United in 1993/94, told : “Scott McTominay is a good example of the problem [at Man Utd].
But Savage quickly tweeted back, saying McTominay is a far better player than he ever was, with the youngster already playing 48 times in the Premier League.
Savage wrote: "Nonsense, I wasn't good enough for United, he's proven he can get into team, hold his place down, be one of United's best players this season and missed when injured!"
Parker went on to say he can't believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn't "bald already" due to his woeful options in midfield.
The former Red Devils star added: “Every time Solskjaer looks at what his midfield’s going to be – well, let's just say I’m just surprised he’s not gone bald already.
"It must paralyse his brain that there is no midfield at all at United.
“Whatever he puts out there, there’s absolutely no guarantee it’s going to work. If you’re playing up front, you know that you’re not going to get the ball.
"If you’re in defence, you know that the ball’s going to come straight back.
"The midfield is the problem at United. They have absolutely no middle ground.”
