THOMAS MULLER could be leaving Bayern Munich after 20 years with the club.

Manchester United have had their eyes on him and could try to get him during the summer transfer window.

However, over the last two seasons under Niko Kovac he has slipped down the pecking order.

Kovac was sacked after just 18 months in charge and has since been replaced by Hans-Dieter Flick, who was Germany assistant coach under Joachim Low from 2006-2014.

Although he is likely to play more under Flick, Muller has expressed the possibility of a move away from the Allianz Arena.

On his future,: "My focus is exclusively on being successful this season.

"What will happen in the summer, I will talk to the club and consider my options. Then let's see in which direction things will go."

When asked about how far he is away from agreeing terms with Bayern, he said: ''With such a thing, all parties have to put their arguments in the pot.

"Let's see if you can make an agreement there.

"You just have to compare what all parties want."

Muller has 18 months left on his contract, which ends in 2021.

He signed an extension with Bayern in 2015.

Muller admitted in 2017 that two years earlier, he had considered a move to Old Trafford after falling out of favour at the club, struggling to secure a first-team spot.

The then-United boss Louis Van Gaal offered £85m for the German forward.

But that offer failed to materialise.

The 30-year-old joined the German giants back in 2000 as part of the youth system and has won a total of eight league titles, five German Cups and the Champions League in 2013.

However, Muller has scored only twice in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season and only managed six goals in 32 games last season.

Despite this, he was chased by AC Milan and Inter Milan early in 2019, as both targeted a summer swoop for the 2014 World Cup winner.

A Muller move to Old Trafford has been a long time in the making but it could become a reality this summer.
