MANCHESTER UNITED’S bid to sign Bruno Fernandes has collapsed with Sporting Lisbon refusing to budge on their valuation.

United in turn will not bend to what they believe are unreasonable demands.

There has been no change in the stalemate since the weekend with Sporting demanding interested parties pay the Portuguese midfielder's £68million release clause.

United have offered £42.5million up front with a further £8.5million in add-ons.

Sporting are desperate for the cash and have been complaining to Portuguese media that it is all United’s fault.

But United co-chairman Joel Glazer, who signs off transfers, simply believes the structure of the deal is not right and the player is not worth what is being asked.

It is not as if United are in a bidding war with another club either.

With just over a week to go until the transfer window closes United have not even tried to negotiate the Fernandes’ personal terms with the two clubs so far apart on price.

The player, 25, himself was convinced he was on the move just under a fortnight ago as he blew kisses goodbye to Sporting fans after scoring twice in 3-1 win over Setubal.

His mood changed on Tuesday night, however, following a 2-1 defeat at Braga.

He stormed down the tunnel at the end of the game, ignored his own fans, argued with a policeman and shoved a camera.

United are now searching for other options as they are light in midfield due to injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.

They are also seeking a striker on loan with Marcus Rashford out for at least two months.
