Giroud ready to slash £135k-a-week wages to land Inter transfer as they meet Chelsea star’s demand for three-year deal

INTER MILAN are reportedly set to land Olivier Giroud with the Chelsea striker ready to take a pay cut to secure his preferred three-year contract.

The Frenchman's deal in West London expires this summer and he is heading towards the exit door that was unceremoniously blocked during the January transfer window.

Late on in the mid-season market, Chelsea got cold feet about allowing Giroud to depart having failed to sign a replacement.

Tottenham and Barcelona were also said to have come in for the ex-Arsenal striker but he stayed put despite being far down in Frank Lampard's pecking order.

The Blues boss is no longer the master of his destiny however and reveal how Inter are on the verge of a deal.

On the table is a two-year contract with the option for a third, so sought after by the player and able to be activated either by the club or after a set number of appearances are reached.

To seal his reunion with Antonio Conte, Giroud will reportedly take a sizeable pay cut from the £135,000-a-week salary he is earning in the Premier League.

Inter's top earners are said to be on around £110,000 weekly wages and the Frenchman's offer is thought to be some way below that mark, too.

At the end of the January window, the 33-year-old only had one goal to his name after being largely snubbed by Chelsea coach Lampard.

Yet an injury to Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi's unconvincing displays provided a route back into the side in the weeks before football was suspended by the coronavirus pandemic.

With three consecutive Premier League starts before the shutdown, Giroud scored in two vital victories over Tottenham and Everton.

Speculation has since arisen that Chelsea will try and tie him down to a new contract.

Although the major obstacle remains the club's policy of not awarding players over the age of 30 contracts lasting longer than 12 months.
