RANGERS have been linked with former Manchester United midfielder Dion McGhee.

The claims that Steven Gerrard's side are one of a host of clubs across Britain and Europe are pursuing the 19-year-old, who has announced that he will be leaving Old Trafford this summer.

West Ham and Watford are both thought to be keen to keep him playing his football in England.

Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto are said to be tracking the player.

Ligue 1 outfit Nice and Dutch side AZ Alkmaar - who will play in the Champions League next season - have also been credited with an interest.

But the Ibrox side can offer a genuine chance of first-team football and the chance to play under an England legend in Gerrard.

A development fee will be due to the player - but a cross border move to Rangers would mean the compensation due is far less than it would be for English clubs.

Both Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson are well acquainted with the marketplace in developing English players.

Rangers have already moved quickly to strike a similar deal with Leicester City's Calvin Bassey - and have been linked with another Leicester man in the shape of right back Dennis Gyamfi and young Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster.

McGhee - who has been at Manchester United since the age of eight - thanked the club for the part they have played in his development.
