It was Barkley's fourth goal of the season with his other three coming in Chelsea's previous FA Cup competition clashes this term.

Chelsea endured a first half to forget with some sloppy defending with Billy Gilmour at fault for a couple of misplaced passes.

The errors led the Blues boss to make some decisive changes for the second half with Barkley, Cesar Azpilicueta and Matteo Kovacic coming on in place of Gilmour, Mason Mount and Reece James.

And the changes helped to steady the ship for the Blues who went on to win the match 1-0.

They'll face either Arsenal or Manchester United or Manchester City in the semi-finals in July.

Willi Caballero: 6

Made a couple of decent saves to keep Chelsea in the game, it was a decent afternoon from him.

Reece James: 6

James was one of the livelier players in the first half. He wasn’t excellent but neither were any of them, so I’m surprised he was replaced by Azpilicueta at half time.

Antonio Rudiger: 6

Poor not dealing with some crosses but was also pretty solid when called upon at the back.

Kurt Zouma: 6

Did his job but never looks comfortable when pressed and wasted a number of long range passes.

Emerson Palmieri: 6

Some good and poor moments from Emerson in what was a typically inconsistent display from him.

N'Golo Kante: 6

Not one of his best games for Chelsea, looked a little exposed at times and uncomfortable as a lone defensive midfielder in the first half. But he was much improved come the second half.

Mason Mount: 4

Very quiet in the first half and didn’t get involved enough. He couldn’t argue with being replaced by Ross Barkley at half time.

Billy Gilmour: 5

Struggled a lot in the first half but grew into is slightly as time went on. Some unforced errors. He was wisely replaced by Mateo Kovacic at half time.

Willian: 8

Usual energetic stuff from the captain for the day, but was largely ineffective in the first half. He was much better in the second half and got a great assist for Barkley’s goal. He was replaced by Pedro on 76 minutes.

Tammy Abraham: 8

Did his best feeding mainly off scraps in the first half and made a nuisance of himself. In the first half, and was heavily involved in everything Chelsea did good in the second half.

Christian Pulisic: 8

Had a great shot saved somehow by Kasper Schmeichel, and was Chelsea’s biggest attacking threat once again. Came off on 71 minutes for Loftus-Cheek.

Subs

Ross Barkley: 8

Took his goal brilliantly and injected some much needed urgency into Chelsea’s play.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 8

Came on and helped change the game totally with his quality and intensity.

Matteo Kovacic: 9

Mr reliable came on and helped make Chelsea look a lot more sturdy and comfortable on the ball.
